May Art Walk: Steve Miller at Hemming Plaza Jewelers

About the artist:
Steve was born in Asheville, North Carolina, but has lived most of his life in Jacksonville, Florida.  Steve has had an interest in art all of his life, which he began expanding upon more extensively approximately 15 years ago by taking classes at Florida State College at Jacksonville and with various private teachers, including Tony Wood, who is known in the local art community.  Additionally, he has studied figure drawing for the past 12 years.  Previously, Steve himself taught art to children in elementary through high school at The Foundation Academy.

March Birthstone: Aquamarine

March’s birthstone is the Aquamarine, a lovely blue-green stone. It’s name is derived form the Roman word aqua, for water, and mare which means sea. The Romans believed that it was sacred to Neptune, the god of the sea, and sailors would wear the stone as protection against any dangers while they were at sea.

Aquamarine is associated with beauty, loyalty and happiness and some believe that the stone can reawaken love in a relationship.
