The process of creating a custom engagement ring

At Hemming Plaza Jewelers, we can create a custom jewelry piece that fits your style and budget. We can design anything from the perfect diamond engagement ring to a custom necklace that makes a statement.

The process begins with a detailed sketch of your ring. Next a computer 3D image is created and then rendered so you can see exactly what the final product will look like. Once approved, a wax version of the ring is grown and prepared for casting. The piece is then invested in plaster and placed in the kiln where the melted metal is cast into the plaster to create the piece of jewelry. Once the piece has been cooled, it is polished, and then the diamond or other stones can be mounted. Finally, the piece is hand engraved. Click on the images below to see a visual of the process.

Gordon Meggison lives in Jacksonville, Florida, and was educated at Jacksonville University. In 1992, his French Light /Florida Light art show was hosted by the Sisters Cities Association of Jacksonville and Nantes, France featuring “pleine aire” watercolors. He has painted murals across the USA for General Mills , sculpted wall art for interior designers and homes , installing large canvas murals around the world. He now paints full time and teaches watercolor and oils. He tries to capture the pure subtle colors of nature and North Florida landscapes and the energy embodied by driftwood and marshes of the Talbot Island and surrounding area.

Artists Statement
My work is a meditation on the universal questions about change and movement of energy vibrating within objects and the color sensations associated with those vibrations. My technical process is a form of personal calligraphy unearthing my poetic process. My work integrates aspects of action painting, color field theory, and the representational. Fluid acrylics, textural media, oils and watercolors are my tools to explore these relationships.

July Art Walk artist and painting giveaway!

Gustavo_Duenas_giveawayIf you missed Gustavo Duenas last month, he’s back again with us for the Art Walk, Wednesday, July 2, 2014! Stop by Hemming Plaza Jewelers and enter to win this original painting by the artist.

About the artist, Gustavo Duenas:

Born in Guayaquil, Ecuador in 1967, Gustavo Duenas has always been looking far beyond the boundaries of his country’s contemporary art. He’s been trying all the existing schools of art, from expressionism to cubism, from classicism to dadaism. The “ism” have become colors that he could mix with infinite results to show always a new side of his so strangely populated inner universe.

His first art exhibition was in 1991 (though he was always painting almost everything since his early nine years old )in the “Barrio las Peñas”- an important historic site in his natal city Guayaquil, widely known as the center for art exhibitions among the local artists. But it was in 1994 that his art was, among other local contemporary artists, to be part o the re-opening of the recently remodeled Guayaquil’s Municipal Museum, in the “Salon de Julio”. It is in this important art exhibit that his surrealist-neo-dadaist world is exposed for the very first time.

“I’ve always been fascinated by the italian renaissance, but I’m a dadaist/cubist by conviction. The world of the psychic automatism has always lead my work. It starts on my head, then they become lines and shadows in paper, and finally I take my time to infuse all those ideas and concepts into acrylics and watercolors. Sometimes, at the end they will look different to my sketch, I think that is because the only one I’m faithful with is to my wife.”
